So, one might wonder why i'd want to make homemade chocolate chips. For me, it is so hard to find organic chocolate chips that are soy free. My family responds to soy, and it's bad. My oldest gets moodier and is more inclined to have a meltdown. My youngest gets angrier and has a harder time maintaining control. My youngest was even telling me that he did not like candy bars anymore. Then i made this, and he was telling me how much he loved it. Less craziness, and my children asking for more. Yeah, that's why i make this.
Direstions: Put the cocoa powder + maple syrup + coconut oil + salt into glass mixing bowl or double boiler (with a double boiler you put water in the saucepan and the double boiler on top). Place bowl on top of saucepan on medium high to high heat heat and stir ingredients together. The coconut oil will melt. Mine was already melted because of how hot it was that day. Stir the mixture until it has all mixed together into one gooey sauce. If you look at my two pictures below you should be able to see how it looked when i first stirred it together and when it was done. Once the chocolate chips sauce is all mixed and gooey pull off of heat Then line glass container with parchment paper Mix Vanilla Extract into chocolate chips mixture, And pour into glass container I then trimmed the parchment paper and attached lid. I allowed it to cool for a few minutes, but not too many. I didn't want the coconut oil to separate back out. I then put it on an empty shelf in the freezer for a few hours. i have made this before, and put it in the fridge. Once it is solid, i pulled it out of the freezer and cut into chocolate chunks. My favorite places to get cocoa powder are Wilderness Family Naturals and Navitas Naturals.
I LOVE Wilderness Family Natural's coconut oil, especially their expeller pressed coconut oil. I used these chocolate chips in my yogurt, and we loved them in our peanut butter cookies. I have also put peppermint extract in them. I have cut it up like small candy bars and given it to my nieces. I have also added nuts to them. Sometimes I leave it thicker like a candy bar, but others I pour it thinner like bark thins. I will be adding directions for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, which uses this chocolate recipe. |
